Paging in CELL DCH/CELL FACH

A paging type 2 message is sent on the DCCH in connected mode CELL FACHor CELL DCH states of the RRC. This contains a notification for NAS for a mobile terminating call. This in turn triggers another signalling connection to be set up for a new domain, depending on the domain information in the message.

Paging in CELL PCH/URA PCH

In the connected mode, the RNC, in addition to the tasks it can perform in idle mode, can also trigger a cell update procedure in the UE by sending a paging record for a UE without the paging information from the core network in connected mode. Paging in CELL PCH would imply that the UE is known at the cell level so the paging is only in that cell. Paging in UTRAN Registration Area (URA)

PCH would imply that the UE is moving quickly between cells so the UE is paged in the
URA.
